New to networking?
Frustrated that it’s not working?

You know networking matters—but it’s rarely clear where to start or what to do differently.

  • New to networking and unsure how to begin?
  • Networking feels awkward, forced, or uncomfortable?
  • You meet people, but relationships don’t seem to go anywhere?
  • You’re busy and tired of “random” networking that doesn’t support your goals?

Build your networking foundation.

Networking Know-How is a self-paced online program that helps you build a strong foundation for effective networking. Instead of trial and error, you’ll learn the four foundational networking competencies that allow you to network with confidence, clarity, and intention.

You’ll walk away knowing how to clearly communicate your expertise, engage others naturally, and take a strategic approach to building relationships that actually move your goals forward.

Four Foundational Competencies

Module 1. Adopt a Positive Networker Identity

This module focuses on reframing networking as conversations with the potential to learn about the other person and to teach them about yourself. The logic is simple: the more I learn about you, the more likely I can help you in some way. The more I teach you about who I am, the more likely you can help me. This module is not so much a skill, but a change in thinking about what networking is and isn't. Being conscious of this networking competency during an actual conversation is a skill.

Module 2. Communicate Your Expertise

Learners will be able to answer the "What do you do?" question in a way that teaches the other person something about what they do and how well they do it. They will also be able to use the 5-S storytelling module to teach the other person a more in-depth picture of their skills, abilities, and accomplishments.

Module 3. Engage Others

Learners will be able to use STOP + THINK questions to learn more about the other person in a conversation. They will also learn how to use the information they glean to determine the best way to give back (help) the other person.

Module 4. Take a Strategic Approach

Learners will be able to learn and put into practice the actions needed to get the best ROI on their networking efforts. Why am I networking? What are my goals? What do I want to achieve? Who should I be connecting with? Are they in my network already? If they are not in my network, what actions do I need to take to schedule a time to meet them.

Meet Your Coach

Hi, I’m Vern Schellenger, President & CEO of Contacts Count.

I know what it’s like to struggle with networking when you’re trying to land jobs, promotions and clients. When I left my long career as an executive with Dunkin Donuts, I knew networking was critical to find my next opportunity. The problem? I quickly realized I didn’t know how. It felt uncomfortable and awkward, and I worried people would feel like I was begging for help.

That’s when I dedicated myself to learning this skill. Here’s what I discovered:
Networking is more than meeting people; it’s about being strategic, about making genuine and mutually beneficial connections.

The result? I landed my dream job and, ultimately, my life passion.
Now my team and I at Contacts Count equip and empower professionals and entrepreneurs with all the strategies, skills and tools to master networking (even if they’re introverted and networking events make them want to run away).

We help our clients make networking a way of life. This accelerates the achievement of their goals and makes them feel in control over their career and business advancement.
